I want to start off saying thank you for showing teenagers Jesus throughout the whole year. We understand that camp is only one week out of 52, but it is such an important week as well. There is something unique and special about taking teenagers out of their everyday routine to be stretched physically and spiritually in the wilderness.
Camp Perea has a unique approach to camp. First, we are an outreach camp. Throughout your week at camp we will present the basics of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a practical and understandable way for non-Christian teenagers. We tackle questions like, “Is there a God and how can we know?”; “What is He like then?”; “What really is sin?”; “Did Jesus really exist and did He really die on a cross?”; “If Jesus was God, and God died on a cross, how can I have a relationship with Him?”; and many more.
While we present the Gospel in talk form, we truly believe that you, dear leader, are the hero of the week. We are very intentional about building the relationship between you and the teenagers you bring with you. You will find yourself paddling side by side with them through waves crashing into the raft, overcoming the fear of rappelling down a 100 foot rock wall, and becoming more real with each other than you ever have been before.
After each talk, we give “tent time” where you and your teenagers have time in your tent to discuss life, the talk, and Jesus. This tends to be most people’s favorite time of camp because they get to be real. This world doesn’t allow teenagers to be real, they are forced to fit into a mold, but you will see your teenagers emerge as new creations through your tent time with them.
By making you the hero, letting you pray with them for salvation, and connecting you with them, you are set up for discipleship when you return home. This helps to eliminate the “camp high” so many campers experience. This is the true heartbeat of Camp Perea. Present the Gospel, connect leaders with their teenagers, and equip them to disciple those teens after camp.
Prayerfully, Camp Perea will ignite you and your teenagers to spread the word of Jesus all over your city and campuses when you both return home. Think of the exponential growth of God’s kingdom when we truly make disciples who make disciples. Thank you for letting Perea Ministries serve you and your youth for the Kingdom of God.
