Let me start off by saying that all of the activities of Camp Perea are incredibaly fun, but are only tools. These tools are used to attract teenagers to camp and help them understand who Jesus is in a real world setting. It is amazing to raft the beautiful rivers of Montana, hike to pristine mountain lakes, and see the breathtaking views at the top of the rock climbing cliff in the Bitterroot Valley.
We spend a day rafting a class III-IV river in Western Montana. We use ACA trained white water rafting guides who love Jesus. Our trip leader is a certified white water raft guide instructor, certified swift water rescue level I, II, and advanced; and technical ropes rescue certified.
There is nothing like getting to the top of a 100 foot rock cliff and “kissing the carabineer.” We top-rope climb a rock with 9 different routs on it ranging from a difficulty rating of 5.6 (fairly easy) to 5.10 (hard). Each of our systems is backed up twice for the greatest safety available. If you are not familiar with rock climbing terms, “top roping” is the safest way to climb. If a camper were to fall, they would only fall about 2 feet. This youth summer camp is run with safety as a primary concern. A technical ropes rescue certified guide leads our rock climbing at Camp Perea.
There are so many hikes around Camp Perea with breathtaking views. At Camp Perea, our goal is to make the hike challenging but doable. If campers work together, they can all make it…if they don’t work together, it will be an extremely long trek. We try to keep our hikes between 5-9 miles each way with a rest overnight. We give campers the whole day to complete the hike so if they are in moderate shape, they will complete this hike without trouble. If a camper is totally out of shape, the hike will be very difficult. If you have questions concerning your campers ability, please talk with us and we can help you sort through the issues.
Campers will experience a variety of team builders and games designed to build relationships with each other. They will have to figure out physical and mental challenges by relying on each other. This, along with the other activities at Camp Perea, helps bond people together and see the value in others.
There are so many things campers get to experience while at camp. We purposely keep a few things secret so campers have anticipation built at camp, but know there is too much that happens at Camp Perea to include it all here. This is a one of a kind adventure camp.
