Camp Perea is unique from all other camps. We are specifically a Christian adventure outreach camp. As opposed to many other camps that either just play in the outdoors or use lots of Christian jargon, this teen summer camp uses activities to introduce Jesus to teenagers in an easy to understand way. We lay out the gospel of Jesus in such a way that non-Christian teenagers can understand. They will come away from Camp Perea knowing why Jesus really is good news!
Safety is a major focus at Camp Perea. We only use ACA certified white water raft guides; we have a wilderness first responder with us at all times for medical emergencies; a techincal ropes rescue specialist ensures rock climbing safety. Our safety equipment is regularly checked and backed up. While many of the activities we do at Camp Perea have an element of risk, most of that risk is perceived risk rather than actual risk. What do I mean by this? Rock climbing, if done correctly, is incredibly safe; yet most teenagers who stand on the edge of the cliff attached to the end of a rope will feel incredibly scared. That is perceived risk VS actual risk. At Camp Perea we have high perceived risk while maintaining low actual risk. This provides a safe yet challenging environment.
In addition to using guides who are trained and certified, we also only use guides who love Jesus and love teenagers. These guides not only help keep teenagers safe in the outdoors, but help to show them who Jesus is through their life.
To our knowledge, Camp Perea is unique in its pre and post service to equip youth groups. If a youth group wants to use Camp Perea as an outreach tool, we will come to that youth group’s leadership team months before camp to help them develop a heart for the lost and train them how to use Camp Perea for that purpose. We also will come after camp to equip those leaders how to disciple their friends who just accepted Jesus Christ into their life.
Many other week long camps cost upwards of $1000. We personally fundraise scholarships and general donations for Perea in order to keep camper costs low. We know of no other comparable camps offered for less, which is one of the main reasons many choose Camp Perea.
We ask one thing of our cooks; "That they do not make 'camp food,'" even though we are at camp…is that too much to ask for? We do not serve overcooked spaghetti with Costco lettuce salad. Instead our chef makes steak, pork chops, kabobs, and always includes an amazing dessert.
At Camp Perea, we do not make our own plans and ask Jesus to bless them; rather we allow Jesus to plan camp and we partner with what He is doing. Because of this, you can expect an exceptional camping experience that is exactly what our Lord wants it to be.
